Enough with the observation.

Good grief! We need an option to control the usage of regular observation. Seems like nearly 80% of the patients in my hospital end up on reg obs and they just hang out there while money is lost. Or, at least a compensation formula for every cycle the patient occupies the room regardless of the diagnoses.

Patients in observation are patients who aren't clogging up lab and radiology slots during the busy day. You can end up seeing a higher percentage of patients with a well run observation ward. You want this!! Otherwise there will almost always be 1 or 2 patients who can't be seen because of the labs being over taxed once you have multiple departments open.

Gotcha. More of a preference modality for me. I prefer to only deal with the more serious cases across departments for hospitalized patients. Course I occasionally let a few non-priority cases take-up bed space too. thanks for the reply.
