As I heared that the ingame graphics will be .png - based, I assume that there will only be a four cardinal direction camera.

Camera is fixed ... we are still considering the implementation of rotating camera, but it's very time consuming, so maybe in some of free patches after release.

I think that is almost impossible to do with how the game has been built. It's 2D graphics, you see.
Another thing is... why does it need it that bad, anyway? Diablo, Theme Hospital, etc worked fine with a stuck camera.

Diablo isn't a building game where you need to different sides to line things up. I also understand it's a 2d game. But I also noticed that every side of an object has a graphic, for instance if you press R you can see it from all the different angles. So rotating the camera would pretty much just rotate all the objects and layout so you're looking at a different side. It doesn't need to be a smooth transition. Sure the greyed out lining up tool helps a little but sometimes it doesn't really work well at all if you're building behind another room with a lot of things in it.
