I never had this case to deliver my own blood sample to the stab lab myself.

How about giving the nurse on the reception one more duty.

After the patient had his blood draw, per or what ever the nurse is going to the GP office, take it and deliver it to the lab. After the lab finished the examination, they can send a message (via PC) to the doctor.

If it's any help, we use porters or the tube system to transport samples to the labs.

I never realized such a system in a hospital, but I guess this is all behind the scene. And I'm avoiding to go to the hospital as well.

I saw a lot of YouTube material and i saw this behaviour between the lab staff and the patients and on the nurse on the reception slowly dieing because of boredom.

But sure, this tube system might work fine with the stab lab. I'm going to buy this game anyway. This reminds me of other games like software.Inc and airport CEO.

LABASSISTENTS
In the Netherlands Lab-assistents/Lab-technicians draw blood.
The Netherlands is pretty unique using Lab-assistents/Lab-technicians.
Mobile patients take place in a dedicated booth near a reception or near the Lab, where their blood is drawn.
Non mobile patients do not go to the booth, but an assistents/doctor draws blood at the bedsite.

DIFFERENT LABS
Different StatLabs for differrent departments look like overkill to me (i was a LabTechnician for several years).
Dividing Lab's in Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry/Haematologyis is common.
Perhaps differentiate Technicians on these qualifications.

MORE LABS
Perhaps maybe a Pathology Lab is could be considered. Meant to test tissues before releasing patients after surgery or to complete a complicated diagnosis.

in uk - royal derby hosptial has speical equipment that does blood tests straightaway - what i have seen - doctor comes to to patient and takes blood and goes to room somewhere within ward and gets results and comes back to talk to patient - its was in triage ward
in some places where you can drop off urine samples - for example drop off at reception or in GP office

Dutch hospitals also apply this method of testing.
It's refered to as POCT (Point of Care Testing).

Some patientcare-organisations visit people at home to provide them with this service.

I thinks Project Hospital already seems to have implemented POCT by placing analysers into the GP-offices.

Thanks god they kept the Statlab alive!
Don't wanna be the next patient in line after an extensive stool-analysis in the GP-office.... Shocked

In my hospital point of care testing is limited by cost. Every ward has point of care blood glucose testing but only some have POC ketone testing (mainly the general medical wards, critical care, AMU, and A&E).

Blood gas machines are also restricted to some wards such as A&E, AMU, critical care, and the respiratory ward. All other samples go to the labs.

Places like surgical recovery and A&E have the Haemocube for POC testing of haemoglobin.

A&E is the only place I know in the hospital with a point of care INR machine in resus for those with strokes on warfarin. Although I know one GP practice that has one for monitoring patient INRs instead of having to send samples to the lab and wait a day to get them back. Expensive piece of kit but saves money in the long run.

That’s actually got me thinking; portable x-ray machines for those “crashing” patients would be cool. We use them a lot for unwell patients too sick to transfer to radiology. Just an after thought.
