Meal carts- do they actually have a purpose?
Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:46 pm
My patients get out of bed in the morning to go to the bathroom, vending machine and water fountain. I recently changed meal times and staff schedules but haven't had any pts in the morning to see if it's worked yet.
Do the meal carts actually serve a purpose?
Does it matter whether they're in the nurse's station or on the icu/hdu/regular ward?

They did not matter when I was playing around with them. The nurse who delivers meals carries the trays invisibly, and does not visit all of the patients. Patients on a modified diet get two glasses, a big one and a little one.

What about blanket warmers? They serve a purpose or just clutter?

All I needed in my nurse offices was desks, PCs, and chairs plus one equipment cabinet. I added hand sanitizing equipment and a trash can just for a realistic look. I added stretchers, food carts, or a card file cabinet depending on what kind of nurses I was going to put in there. But they did not need those things.

I wish it was clear which objects have an effect on pt care and which are purely decorative.

RoomTypes.xml has a somewhat cryptic description of all the room types.

I also don't truly understand what things or combination of things will make an environment "nice" and what contributes more. The description did makes it sounds like the cart item boosts efficiency for patient meals, but as others have pointed out it is a slight issue because of the time the day shift shows up for the shift and don't make it inside your hospital until patient meal time is almost over. Sounds like time to dive into the XML.
