Maternity and Paediatrics (and why these aren't planned)
Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:43 pm
Hi everybody,
We've recently started receiving a lot of new suggestions for maternity and paediatrics, so we thought it would be the best to talk about this topic a bit more in depth.
While it's a great idea in general and we can see how this would make a welcome addition, the content wouldn't really fit the current design of Project Hospital - in a way, these would work the best as a standalone game (but unfortunately there's no plan for this on our side).
There are basically two main reasons - the first part is simply the amount of work this would take, possibly more than the three main DLCs with new departments combined. We'd be looking at new graphics for children and babies, completely new sets of animations to fit them and to fit doctors performing examinations on the kids, new complex behaviors like parents accompanying their children, not even taking in account the new departments, their equipment and diagnoses.
The second reason is that it would be very hard to balance how severe the medical conditions associated with the departments should be - in a way, we'd either have to break the mostly-realistic approach we keep for the game overall or implement children and mums collapsing and dying, which, to be honest, seems a bit too much not only to the parents among the team.
I at least hope this shows that we considered these suggestions very carefully (we actually discussed it multiple times during development as it's been one of the most popular ideas from the community) and we hope you understand our perspective here.
Thank you!

Missing development time is the reason I understand here. Time invested for a DLC and the corresponding expected revenues might not match so I am fine with that decision. Second reason not so much. we can have children without grim scenarios but that was said elsewhere. The need for coding different animations and new sprite types and connected entities (parent-child) seems to be a very hard nut to crack. Understandable. I am not happy, but I understand the reasoning behind the decision.
