Text size and UI scaling help
Sun Nov 29, 2020 9:28 am
I just got the game and I'm so excited to play! But as it stands, the game is unplayable on my computer and I can't figure out how to fix it.
The issue is the text size and UI scaling. If I scale up the UI so the text (e.g. the specific treatments and examinations available on the patient card) is large enough to read, then the bottom of the patient card (specifically the "treatments" section) is cut off by the bottom of my screen.
My computer screen is 15.5" and has a native resolution of 1366 x 768. I've tried loading the game in every possible screen resolution and fiddled with the UI scaling in each, but the same problem keeps happening: if the text is large enough to read, the patient card becomes too big for my screen. The same problem occurs when I hook up my computer to my television, which is way bigger.
I don't know what to do.
I'm not a coder, but I think the best fix for this would be either to (1) have a font size toggle separate from the UI scaling, so we can make the text bigger without making the UI boxes too large, or (2) add scrollbars to the patient cards so I can scroll down to the "treatment" section when the UI is scaled larger.
Please help.

Hi, thanks for the message, I'm sorry to hear you're having such issues even after adjusting everything!
Our usual advice for playing with the 1366 x 768 resolution is actually pretty similar to what you've tried already, it should be possible to increase the UI size by about 10% while everything still fits on the screen. Also, maybe worth trying: could you set a shorter tooltip delay in options so tooltips for items in the card show immediately and check if the text in tooltips for the examinations and treatments is easier to read?
Over time we keep making small changes to the layout to be able to use a wider range of the UI scale, but the patient card with all the info that needs to be visible at once has always been a limit. Regarding your suggestions, (1) the size of the font depends on the space in the different sections of the card, so there's unfortunately no room to increase it, (2) maybe it could also help if we allowed moving the card more freely, not limiting it to the top of the screen, let me see if it's an easy and safe change that we can implement for the next patch.
One more question though - the TV you mentioned, what size and resolution is it - full HD? The texts should definitely look ok there if you're using it as a computer screen.

Jan, thank you for your reply!
I've already been increasing the UI size to the point that the patient card is as tall as my screen; the text is still too small to comfortably read. If I leave UI scaling at the default, the patient card is shorter than the screen and the text is entirely illegible. The text is only large enough to read at a scale where the card is too tall for the screen.
Thank you for your suggestion with the tooltip delay. That helped a little, but the text in the tooltips are also small. Not as bad, but still small.
I really like your idea of allowing the card to move more freely and not be limited to the top of the screen. That would solve the problem perfectly, especially if the cards can be moved also by clicking and dragging their sides instead of just the title bar. That would allow me to make the UI elements as big as I need them and still be able to read the whole card.
I don't know the size of my television screen. It's more than twice as large as my computer screen. It's definitely HD. The game looks beautiful on it, except for the size of the text.
Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate your response.

Hi, just to quickly confirm - the change with panel movement is ready for the next patch (that will be probably out early next week). And yes, you can drag the card by clicking anywhere, not only the heading.

YES! Jan, thank you so much!! I'm so excited to play now
While I have your attention, can I also suggest a red-green colorblind mode? When I tried to play the game earlier, the red and green indicator numbers for the "optional" and "required" rooms for each department confused me. I don't mind asking my girlfriend which numbers are what, but it'd be really awesome if in a later patch the dev team can implement an additional indicator (e.x. bolding the number of required rooms instead of just recoloring them) or an alternative colorblind-friendly color scheme (e.g. blue and yellow).
Again, thank you so much for being so responsive!

Hello,
I'm also struggling with the text size, I've changed the setting to 1366x768. The characters and equipment is all perfect sizing, but the text within the cards is too small. Even when I do window mode.
I'm using a HD monitor and the resolution is at 3240x2160 and I'm able to read the text with no issues.
Any assistance would be great.

Hi, the panels will always have the same relative size on screen regardless of the resolution, instead there's a UI scale slider that should allow you to make the panels (including the texts) larger.
