Move a whole room
Thu Nov 01, 2018 2:21 pm
Is it possible to move a whole room?
Sometimes you can misplace a room etc, or its better placed in another spot.
I havent been able to find a function to move a whole room yet, have you?
If not, can it be added?

I don't think its realistic to just move rooms but there should be undo options in game. There are many places in the game that should have confirmation dialogs and undo possibilities.

What does that have to do with realism? We players press pause and build up a complete hospital, with virtually no loss of time. When it comes to realism, where are the construction workers and the movers?
Also, we can save and copy room templates, so moving a room would just be skipping an intermediate step of Copy & Paste.

Yes, you can copy room templates but it will cost you to place them and I think that's ok. Moving rooms without any penalty is another thing, or maybe I misunderstood you and you are not talking about free moving.

Whether moving a room costs anything or not would be a decision of the developers. At the moment, it's really awkward to rebuild a hospital so that it would be a real simplification for the players.
As I said, the question of cost is another issue, it's all about the ability to move the rooms.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Dantor, it is very awkward to move rooms around. There are two main ways of moving a room:
A) Layout a room of the same size elsewhere and just sit there and manually move the equipment from the old room to the new room.
Upside: It only costs whatever a new foundation, walls and floors cost - plus a single copy of any prerequisite objects to other objects.
Downside: It takes aaaages to do this. Any items that needs to be connected to other items you must buy a new prerequisite item for since there's no holding inventory and objects that are linked to each other, for some reason can't be moved together. So if you want to move, say a desk and pc, you need to buy a second desk or table to put the pc on in order to move the original desk. The same goes for beds with life supports connected.
B) Copy a room to a temporary prefab and place it down
Upside: Pretty fast to do
Downside: VERY expensive, because you buy a copy of every single item in that room and when you sell the contents of the old room you're only refunded a fraction of their cost.
So I don't see why a move feature couldn't just combine these two options somehow.... I.E when you choose to MOVE a room a copy of the layout of the room is purchased (walls, floors, foundation) anything else that could realistically be moved will be moved at no cost.
That way you get penalized for moving a room but you're not penalized unfairly.

I think that anything you do in build mode shouldn't be charged until you go back into play mode. That means you can fiddle about till you get it right. AFter going into play mode, the stuff you built is considered fully constructed and cannot be altered without paying for the alterations. If we can do that, then we don't really need a seperate planning mode
