Patients should follow doctors back to their room

As it is now, the doctor walks out to the waiting area and calls a patient, then marches all the way back to their office and sits down again before the callee even stands up. As soon as the patient is called, they should get up and follow the doctor back to their room.

I understand there is a ticket system with the TV, but for smaller waiting rooms where this is not desired or practical, the default setup should be more efficient.

I agree, it isn't practical to put a ticket system if front of every lab or doctor office. Especially if they aren't all at the same place.
Patient are loosing so much time because of this.
