New Department: Anesthesiology Empty New Department: Anesthesiology

Since the developer anounced there will be shared operation theatres, I came up with the idea of a new department: anesthesiology. It's quite annoying to hire an anesthesiogist for every department and set them as anesthesiology only. So my idea is a new department with anesthesiologists who are responsible for every department and every operation. Before the operation the anesthesiologist would visit the patient in the ward, then goes to the theatre, then the nurse takes the patient to the theatre and the operation will be proced like it used to at the moment.

What you guys think about that idea?

Hello everybody,

I do not want to interfere too much in the topic but here is my idea:

A Standby-Room for Operation-Staff separated and interdepartmental.

I would also support the creation of an Anesthesiology department. I agree with you, in does seem a bit odd that I can’t perform a knee surgery because my anesthesiologist from internal medicine and general surgery refuse to put the patient under for me.

The only question for me (and I’m sure there are people who have thought this through far more than I have) is how would such a department be fleshed out? It seems a bit crazy to have an entire department that would essentially just be a call room for the doctors. I find it interesting that in Denmark the anesthesiologist covers the ICU as well (so that would be one possibility). In the U.S. the intensivist is typically someone who specialized in a field like internal, pediatric, or pulmonary medicine and then did a fellowship afterwards. However, I could certainly see them being included as a part of the ICU department due to their expertise in intubation.

TLDR: I agree it would be nice to have anesthesiologists shared. If made into a new department, would like to see department larger than just on call room.

Since we have shared operating theatres and an own department for medical laboratories, why not taking all the ideas from above and bring them together in one department.

For example:
The department Operatng theatres include
- Operating room
- On call room for each anesthesiologists and surgical nurses
- Janitors room, toilet, corridor, common room etc.

A smart move would be to be able to assign a room to a special department.
Maybe a hybrid solution with an OP-Department as described above and the possibillity to have special operating rooms assigned to one department.

In Germany, Anesthesiology is an own clinic/specialist department in a hospital.
They usually cover anesthesia, pain medicine, emergency medicine and are part of the intensive care team.
