Transferring personnel between departments / "Select department"

Hello,

I've been having a little trouble trying to transfer personnel between departments; it seems the "Select department" button on their character sheet has no effect, and I can't seem to find another way to transfer them to another department. Could anyone enlighten me on how "Select department" is supposed to work, or tell me how I can transfer personnel around?

When I do it, I first press that button on their screen. I then choose the department on the lower bar so the rooms and positions for that department are displayed. Then I make sure the shift is set right. Then I put them there.

What do you mean by "I put them there"? They don't appear in the staff list of the department I'm trying to transfer them to.

I click on the open position into which I wish to transfer them.

It seems it's opening the "Hire staff" window without doing anything else when I do that. Even when I clicked "Select department" beforehand and made sure I had the right department selected at the bottom. Am I missing a step here?

My mistake. Go to the employee's profile page. Press "Assign employee to workspace". Then do the rest. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah! Thanks, so it looks like "Assign employee to workspace" is the way to go to transfer departments! I really wonder what "Select department" is supposed to do then.

Probably nothing with regard to staff. With it you can sometimes move patients. I have more success moving patients with that button if I seize control of them, but nothing seems to move them from the ICU even if all of the secondary symptoms are black instead of red. I mean, a need for surgery means the patient should go to the surgical department, yes? But no, ICU has them and ICU will keep them until they die of their need for surgery. Or so it seems, to me.
