[RESOLVED BACKLOG] Surgery Backing Up - Doctors and Nurses reserved working in overtime but no operation happening
Thu Nov 29, 2018 4:51 pm
In day shift the entire Cardio Surgery crew is sitting at their desks, reserved for an operation on one of the two patients requiring one. The shift changes and now the night shift surgery crew is sitting at their desks reserved for surgery on the other patient requiring an operation. They are the same desks, and both crews are present at the same time in this save. I hired another stretcher nurse (there were two already on both shifts) and immediately both operations took place, one beginning after the other but overlapping in their separate operating theaters.
I'm not sure this is a bug, but it is strange.

I once had three doctors (surgeon, assistant, and anesthesiologist) as well as two nurses (surgical and other) sitting at their PCs reserved for surgery for a single patient. They were all doing the same thing, waiting for someone else to transport their patient. I did as you and hired another nurse to get things moving. I don't think this is a bug necessarily but perhaps it could be re-evaluated. The nurse and anesthesia would normal transport the patient together (USA) to the OR. So perhaps one of them could be given the responsibility to transport instead of waiting. A patient wouldn't be in the OR without an anesthesiologist anyhow.

I noticed when I went back in that I did not in fact have two transport-only nurses, but only one, before I hired another one.
The weird thing, though was having two people sitting in each seat.
We ought to get a warning when a surgical team is complete but there is no transport for the patient. Especially when the crew is being held over into the next shift.
Lucky for me that I had two operating theaters so the two patients did not have to wait another day for their surgery. I still do not know if I could get two operations scheduled on the same shift, because these were technically one in each shift, even though they were being performed simultaneously.

Hi, we plan to add more info about the state of the procedures/treatments, so you should be able to see the different states in patients card in the future (like "waiting for OR", "waiting for surgical team", "waiting for transport to surgery") etc. There's also already a 'long wait for transport' popup, but maybe you have it set to log.
Regarding multiple surgeries - yes, if you have enough staff, you can have as many surgeries running in parallel as you have ORs at the department.
