[RESOLVED BACKLOG] Staff using toilets in patient rooms/wards
Tue Dec 04, 2018 11:52 pm
Hi, sorry if this isn't quite a bug but I thought I would ask incase it's unintended behaviour. I have noticed that staff often go into patient rooms/ward areas to use toilets which is obviously very unrealistic. Would it be possible to change their behaviour so that they only use dedicated restrooms?

I also have an issue with this. A door that's restricted to patients could be an easy/helpful fix

That door idea is a no-no.
If anything it'd have to be tied to the room. A setting somewhere that says "objects in this room are forbidden".
Staff needs to still be able to get in in case there's a collapse. Also a door like that is poor game design.

It's not if you build it correctly. The restrooms in my patient rooms, for example, are 1x2 with a separate door, which is really all the space you need to use for it. Sink and stuff are in the main room. The collapse animation makes it essentially a 1x2 object, with the patient lying across two tiles with a staff member at the upper half of the body. I have personally never seen someone collapse in the middle of a doorway, either. This means it's impossible for someone to collapse in that 1x2 area. A pt only door would be the simple, short term fix. Restricting items in the room is the ideal, long term fix, as you could extend the embargo to seating, as well.

It's still really bad game design.

Hi, it should be actually relatively simple to implement a rule that when a staff member looks for a toilet, they will prefer the 'staff only' marked areas (currently the hierarchy of access rights basically only allows to disable patient access, not vice versa). If there aren't any toilets marked as staff only, the selection will just fall back to selecting the closest free one as it does now.
Btw - I think you should be able to mostly resolve this by placing enough toilets in such location that they're closer to the staff rooms than any of the ones in the wards. Maybe not practical in existing layouts though.
(And I'm marking this report as backlog as it's now on our internal list)
